After music publisher lawsuit, fitness company’s CEO said it will take down videos that use popular songs

My thought is this, when it comes to Star Trek I prefer to use my imagination rather than base everything on reality. It is a fable that shows a potential future I think.

Tuesday’s Season 15 finale of The Voice promised to be a real nail-biter. Kirk Jay, heretofore the frontrunner, had had an off night Monday, and Kennedy Holmes had turned in not one, not two but three dazzling performances. They were so good, in fact, that my praise got me accused of being biased. (I think all my enthusiasm for her means is that I prefer contestants who sing like a dream and don’t stand on stage like they’ve been hit by a freeze ray.) But, considering that just last week, the 14-year-old had had to fight for the Instant Save, could she possibly have turned around enough viewers to walk away with the win? Or had Kirk’s stumble just opened the door for Chevel Shepherd or Chris Kroeze, both of whom had fine, if not mind-blowingly good, weeks but, like Kirk, appealed to the massive country vote? Thanks, Tiger! Seems reasonable. I’d just add that religion and culture are so intertwined that religious traditions also evolve as cultures do or they atrophy. That’s why I found the “religion” of New Eden to be a bit jarring, as I posted above. I’d expect Earth religions to undergo a major metamorphosis after “first contact” and I saw no sign of that in New Eden.

- Maul is played by actor and martial artist Ray Park, who first portrayed the character in The Phantom Menace. He is voiced by Sam Witwer, who also voiced the character in The Clone Wars and Rebels. (Fun fact: Witwer also provided his voice and likeness for the character of Starkiller in The Force Unleashed video games.) – The lightsaber Maul brandishes in his cameo is the same one he uses in Rebels sans the "walking stick" attachment. Also, it should be noted that this cameo prevents Solo from being the first Star Wars movie not to feature a lightsaber at all.  – Maul also uses the Force to equip his lightsaber, which prevents the movie from being the first without any mention or use of the Force.  – The original pilot in Beckett’s crew is Rio Durant, the four-armed Ardennian voiced by Jon Favreau. The veteran actor and director also voiced Pre Vizsla, a Mandalorian from The Clone Wars, and is set to write and produce the upcoming Star Wars live-action series.  – At one point, Durant refers to Han as a "flyboy." This is a reference to Princess Leia, who calls Han a "flyboy" in A New Hope.  – Enfys Nest’s group of marauders, The Cloud-Riders, turn out to be a diverse group of freedom fighters from across the galaxy who want Crimson Dawn’s stolen coaxium because it’s "the blood that brings life to something new." This seems to indicate that The Cloud-Riders are on one of the splinter cells that eventually came together to become the Rebel Alliance. The Ghost crew from Rebels was another such group. – The Cloud-Riders actually first appeared in the old Legends canon. The original Cloud-Riders first appeared in classic Marvel comic, Star Wars #8, a story titled "Eight for Aduba-3" — the same issue that introduced Jaxxon, that green rabbit dude whom you still can’t believe in a Star Wars character. In this story, the Cloud-Riders are raiders who attack a village on Aduba-3 once a year, burning crops and kidnapping the woman. Han and Chewie organized a group called the Star-Hoppers of Aduba-3 in order to combat the evil raiders, Magnificent Seven style.  Shout out to commenter Derek Whaley for pointing this one out to me!

The average life time of any given CO₂ molecule in the atmosphere is about 5 years. (This was confirmed by the A-bomb tests that filled the atmosphere with a spike of radiocarbon). Just as a water molecule condenses (and perhaps, freezes in place) … other water molecules replace the ones lost. Similarly, on average, for every CO₂ that gets absorbed, another CO₂ is liberated. The act of absorption does not change the average level of atmospheric CO₂ (well, there is the seasonal upswing and downswing in the Keeling curve) … because it is balanced by outgassing and emission. Similarly, the act of condensing does not cause the atmosphere to suddenly dry out … and it is never zero.

“New Eden” is another in a long tradition of Star Trek episodes that wrestled with Starfleet’s first commandment, General Order One, better known as the Prime Directive. With the Discovery breaking out of local space and doing some far frontier exploring this was bound to come up, with the interesting twist that even with humans from Earth, rules are rules and pre-warp means no-interference. Captain Pike leads the way, showing he is very much of a by-the-book kind of leader, perhaps even showing he may be rigid to a fault.

This 2015 remake of Vives’ original video and recording from 1995 is an achingly beautiful love letter to Vives’ native Colombia, where he enlisted help from multiple fellow Colombian stars — including Fanny Lu, Fonesca and Maluma, each hailing from a different region in the country – for a stunning, sweeping trip through his homeland. Meanwhile, the evocative lyrics and melancholy, yet danceable melody, bring to mind memories of Gabriel García Marquez. – L.C.

Anthony’s captions are a highlight of the reviews, man, lighten up. “Hit or miss” … humor is like that sometimes.

The only thing I did not understand was whether the Enterprise crew allowed Burnham into Spock’s quarters without his permission. But I’ll assume she did not ask for it and it was a case of sneaking into her sibling’s room to secretly read this diary.
