For the first 25 seconds or so, it seems straightforward enough: A cinematic, slightly creepy Metro Boomin beat made all the more ominous by the looming presence of a 21 Savage verse on the horizon. But in a year in which mid-song beat changes have come roaring back into fashion, Metro and Savage combine for one of the most jarring: The beat drops off a cliff to support an ASMR-esque verse, in which Savage delivers the only thing that could make his presence even more like a horror movie – him whispering about killing you, and how, precisely, he’s going to do it. I almost don’t need to tell you, but yes, this song did come out the week of Halloween this year. – D.R.
New additions Pike and the new engineer are very interesting and very well cast. Can’t wait to see more.
The second episode kicks off where “Brother” ended, with a nice quiet moment between the three focal characters of the show’s second season: Pike, Burnham and the off-screen Spock. In Pike’s homey new ready room, Burnham shares Spock’s map of the seven bursts, and the captain surprises her with the news that her estranged foster brother Spock has checked himself into a Starfleet psychiatric facility. The Sarek family dysfunction was on full display as Pike reveals Spock didn’t want them to be told and Burnham admitting she is the last person Spock would want to see, even if he could be the key to solving the seven bursts mystery of the season.
It’s funny so many people are applauding the rather Trek-like A & B story format. I happened to come across a quote from Ron Moore this morning where he griped about the mandate for A & B stories:
Yeah, a healthy 10% or so better than where it’s been. And then, Larry, I guess also just referring to that slide 11 in the deck. You show the old design with a ramp. It looks like you’ve been able to get away without having to put in that ramp, which is obviously a huge savings, and you’ve gone to this — what looks to be a much more simplified design. I’m just curious, it looks almost too good to be true that you could get rid of all that development and do what you need to do using existing workings. Can you just explain a little bit about how that came to pass, that you could eliminate all that development and still achieve what you needed to?

6. "Street Fighter" (1994)It’s "Batman: The Movie" meets "Rambo," and somehow it actually works. How? Raul Julia, that’s how. As the story’s villain, he’s having an absolute blast the entire time, with a cast that just as often also leans into their goofy video game characters.
It would probably be better if they swapped out the Section 31 show for a Pike show, it just seems like it would be much more popular (and certainly less controversial).
- Chewbacca wears an ammunition belt across his chest throughout the Original and Sequel Trilogies. He wears two belts in Solo. – Chewie doesn’t have his famous bowcaster in this movie. Instead, he equips a regular blaster rifle. – We need to talk about that Kessel Run. Han completes allegedly zooms through the dangerous smuggling route in "less than 12 parsecs." It’s revealed that this is a lie fabricated by Han. When mentioning that he’s completed the run in 12 parsecs, Chewie questions this. Han replies, "Not if you round down." This might also explain why Rey thought Han had completed the Kessel Run in 14 parsecs. It seems that there are conflicting accounts about Han’s exploits and the smuggler isn’t happy about it. – This is the first Star Wars movie not to feature the famous line, "I have a bad feeling about this, " but Han DOES deliver an offshoot of that: "I have a good feeling about this." Nicely played, Solo. – During his final standoff with Beckett, Han fires his blaster while his mentor is midway through a sentence. This is a reference to the "Han shot first" debacle from A New Hope. In this case, Han definitely DID shoot first. Listen to the latest Star Wars Blaster Canon podcast:
The authors argue that global warming ‘is transforming where and how we live and presents growing challenges to human health and quality of life, the economy, and the natural systems that support us.’ And they conclude that humans must act aggressively to adapt to current impacts and mitigate future catastrophes ‘to avoid substantial damages to the U.S. economy, environment, and human health and well-being over the coming decades.’â
