I did like some things about it, and I’m keeping an open mind, but it felt like a combination of Star Wars and Mission Impossible for much of its runtime.

If you’re looking for a huge, beautiful, expansive sci-fi vision, "Altered Carbon" is a good place to start. Netflix’s adaptation of the book of the same name imagines a world where bodies are interchangeable and people are stored as digital versions of themselves. There’s a whole lot to absorb in this hard-boiled sci-fi murder mystery.
I guess I’m not getting the point you’re trying to make, Luke. That anything not historically or empirically verifiable is useless? That the law codes in the Bible originated in patriarchal, homophobic societies in which slavery was taken for granted? (Of course, but there are also laws to release slaves after specified years, that require crops be left unharvested for the poor, that limit what damages can be demanded for an injury, and that call for all debts to be annulled every 50 years.) It seems to me that an unavoidable question is what presuppositions — whether favorable or critical — folks bring to their reading of a text and what principles of interpretation guide their reading.
After Burnham is safely back on the Discovery, they have a last bit of business of plot to take care of, with the recovery of a piece of this strange asteroid. The whole crew bonds as they work together to solve the problem classic Star Trek style, with Tilly exuberantly proclaiming a win for Team Discovery via “the power of math!” Phrases like “dark matter” and “gravity distortions” are thrown around, but the real analysis is left to future episodes. There were also indications that this space rock may be the key to getting the spore drive back online, with mentions of its mycelial effect being up to that of Ripper, our long lost enslaved tardigrade navigator.
Femme fatales and bad boys go hand in hand — at least, that’s the end point of this tainted game of cat and mouse. This K-pop girl group, known for their cute yet mature duality, immerses you straight away in their moody soundscapes, filling this R&B jam with intricate details such a a siren onomatopoeia, clacking high heels and harmonies to spare.
