If you’re looking for a huge, beautiful, expansive sci-fi vision, "Altered Carbon" is a good place to start. Netflix’s adaptation of the book of the same name imagines a world where bodies are interchangeable and people are stored as digital versions of themselves. There’s a whole lot to absorb in this hard-boiled sci-fi murder mystery.

Please don’t believe the common media portrayal of scientists. Science geeks actually come in all different flavors of personality. While I’ll admit that Tilly isn’t my favorite character, she distinctly reminds me of two friends from grad school days. Unfortunately Connolly does as well.

Ironically it gives me hope to know this season opener was written by and under full control of the inept duo of previous showrunners. Much of what feels wrong with this episode comes down to the script and dialogue. So here’s to hope that their replacements realize too much of one thing is never good and strike a more balanced tone later in the season.

The notion of two girls doing naughty things has been virtually non-existent in Latin music. “Sin Pijama” (“No Pajamas”) upends the image of the nice girl, with stars Becky G and Natti Natasha unapologetically swapping lines like “I’ve always been a lady, but I’m a tramp in bed.” The fact that “Sin pajama” is an eminently catchy pop-reggaetón track only helps its cause. – L.C.

5OS delivered the goods with the title track of their glossiest, most radio-friendly album to date. With its shouty hook and galloping pop-punk bassline, “Youngblood” was an anomaly among the trap-infused hip-hop and breathy-voiced chill vibes that prevailed at the top of the charts this year. For me, the Star Trek franchise serves as a hopeful window into humanity’s future. Now, the writers seem to be doubling down on a timeline created over 20 years ago. My concern is that this timeline seems less and less realistic as the present moves further into Star Trek’s “past.”
