The idea that Amanda would greet Michael with such spiritual language is really interesting. It even puts a fresh spin on the role of Alice and Wonderland in Michael’s life … and in Spock’s. At least at this point, it seems that Spock couldn’t relate to his mother in these human empathetic ways. Maybe he simultaneously resented Michael and learned from her, alluding directly to the conversation between Michael and Sarek in the episode. Some wonderful layers of meaning, played with great precision and gravitas by all the actors. Really, really nice.

Obduction is a ridiculously detailed exploration game that revels in giving the player stunning locations to explore to their hearts’ content. Support for motion controllers also brings a new dimension to the game and further demonstrates the amazing progress the gaming industry has made in the last 25 years. We can’t wait to see Cyan’s next project in VR too.

The South by Southwest Conference and Festivals has announced the remainder of its 2019 SXSW festival lineup, which will include Paramount Pictures’ “Pet Sematary” as its closing night film.

As much as that, we miss the formation of what Freddie was onstage. Partly because the film doesn’t want to upstage the Live Aid sequence, there’s hardly a moment where we see Freddie discover who he is as a performer. And here’s why that’s a crucial omission. It wouldn’t be homophobic — in fact, it would be homophobic to deny — that Freddie Mercury brought a spark of gay sensibility to rock ‘n’ roll. He envisioned the concert stage, and the recording studio, as a thunder-rock cabaret, and his vocals projected a newly naked male emotionalism that was stunning in its larger-than-life intensity.

There’s a moment at the very start of Cardi B, Bad Bunny and J Balvin’s bilingual song-of-the-summer contender — six-and-a-half seconds in, to be exact — where the beat snaps, the bass kicks down the door, and you just know that you’re in for a hit. It only gets better: Enter a revved-up Cardi, listing out her favorite things (Diamonds! Blinged-out watches! Halal!) in a throaty half-yell like a Bronx-bred Julie Andrews, followed by two of Latin trap’s biggest stars filling in the gaps in thick, slurring Spanish. There are lyrical gems (“They call me Cardi B/ I run this shit like cardio!”), ad-libs galore (Balvin: ¡Wooh! Bunny: ¡Rrrah!), and enough shakes of timbales to leave you dizzy. The results have been predictably historic: The track became Cardi’s second No. 1 on the Hot 100, making her the first female rapper ever to hit the top slot twice.
