The difference between surface treatment of sandblasting and shot blasting

Aluminum alloy die-casting parts, zinc alloy die-casting parts, usually after shot blasting or sand blasting, is also a relatively common surface treatment.
Shot peening efficiency is high, but there will be dead angles, while sand blasting is more flexible, but power consumption is large.
Sandblasting uses high-pressure wind for power, while shot blasting generally uses a high-speed rotating flywheel to throw steel grit at high speed.
The surface quality of the casting obtained by shot peening is not as good as sandblasting, but it is economical than sandblasting. Moreover, it is possible to remove some of the sand that is difficult to clean the casting, and sandblasting is not possible.
Sandblasting and shot peening are two different surface hardening processes. The hardness of sandblasting is lower than that of shot peening, and the tools used are different!
Sandblasting and shot peening are the difference between the two kinds of spray media, of course, the effect is also different; sandblasting is finer, easy to control precision and flatness; shot peening is more economical and practical, easy to control effect and cost, can control the diameter of iron shot To control the spray effect.

First, the characteristics of shot blasting

     1. Metal or non-metallic projectiles can be used arbitrarily to meet the different requirements for cleaning the surface of the workpiece.

    2. The flexibility of cleaning is large, it is easy to clean the inner and outer surfaces of complex workpieces and the inner wall of the pipe fittings, and it is not restricted by the site, and the equipment can be placed near the extra large workpiece;

    3. The equipment structure is simple, the investment of the whole machine is less, the wearing parts are less, and the maintenance cost is low.

    4. Must be equipped with a high-power air compressor station, the energy consumed is greater under the same cleaning effect.

    5. Cleaning the surface is prone to moisture and easy to rust.

    6. The cleaning efficiency is low, the number of operators is large, and the labor intensity is high.

Second, the characteristics of shot blasting

    1. High cleaning efficiency, low cost, few operators, easy to mechanize, suitable for mass production.

    2. The compressed air is not used to accelerate the projectile, so it is not necessary to set up a high-power air compressor station, and the surface to be cleaned is free from moisture.

    3. Poor flexibility, limited by the site, the cleaning staff is somewhat blind, and it is easy to produce blind spots on the surface of the workpiece.

   4. The equipment structure is complex and there are many wearing parts, especially the parts such as blades are worn out quickly, the maintenance time is high, and the cost is high.

   5. In general, light and small projectiles cannot be used. As we all know, the surface of large steel castings is very important, which is related to the appearance quality of finished steel castings. Usually, the foundry will use shot blasting, shot blasting or sand blasting to clean the surface of the cast steel.

Shot peening, the surface treatment with shot peening has the advantages of large striking force and obvious cleaning effect. The disadvantage is that the blasting of the sheet metal workpiece is easy to deform the workpiece, and the steel shot hits the surface of the workpiece to deform the metal substrate. Shot peening is a surface strengthening process widely used in factories. It has simple equipment, low cost, is not limited by the shape and position of the workpiece, and is easy to operate, but the working environment is poor. Shot peening is widely used to improve the mechanical strength and wear resistance of castings, anti-fatigue and corrosion resistance, etc. It can also be used for surface matting, descaling and eliminating residual stress of castings. The difference between shot blasting and shot blasting uses high-pressure wind or compressed air as power, while shot blasting generally throws steel sand at high speed with a high-speed rotating flywheel. Shot blasting efficiency is high, but there will be dead ends, and shot peening is more flexible, but power consumption is large. Although the two processes have different injection dynamics and methods, they are all aimed at high-speed impact on the workpiece. The effect is basically the same. In comparison, the shot peening is finer and easier to control the accuracy, but the efficiency is not as high as that of shot blasting. The small workpiece, shot blasting is more economical, easy to control efficiency and cost, can control the spray effect by controlling the strength of the pellet, but there will be a dead angle, suitable for batch processing of a single workpiece.
